FROM IOANNINA TO KASTORIA THRUE ZAGOROCHORIA OR ZAGORI
Ioannina needs no introduction and its beauty seduces even the hardest people to please. We go toward Konitsa and on our right is the town of Zagori with its picturesque stone buildings.
The geological clock at Viko, the layers of petrified rock in the ravine, and the sudden springing up into view of the Voidomati completes the most perfect picture of the inexhaustible beauty of nature.
The towns of Monodentri, Papinga and Konitsa are huddled in the depths of the Gamila Mountains and the imposing one arched bridge at Aoo in Konitsa was finally delivered from the dissonance of the metal bridge.
Continuing on we come to the mastorohora, towns of craftsmen. Each visit to these proud towns is an appointment with the diffuse atmosphere of stone creations carved on homes, churches, schools and country lanes. We pass through the towns of Pursogianni, Stratsiani, Vourbiani, Asimohori and Plikati where time sometimes ticks on and sometimes stops.
The beautiful town of Eptahori begins the start of this most interesting journey on a road with many curves that eventually lead to the town of Pentalofo. A classic feature here are special weather updates about snowfall.
The largest river in Greece, the Aliakmonas, provides water to the cultivated land and spills into the lake at Castoria. The beauty of nature here embraces the town from all sides.
